"Most of the people who come to hear us want to hear stories of their own experiences. That's what we give them." - Otis Spann

The music of Otis Spann is immediate and urgent. Completely clear in its content. Otis is one of the great and thoroughly authentic blues storytellers. Into his blues piano playing Otis put his soul. As part of the Muddy Waters' band he could frequently be found in Chicago's south side performing nightly with Muddy.

Otis Spann is the Blues combines the efforts of two legends: Robert Lockwood Jr on guitar and Vocals and Otis on Piano. They sing their lives with passion and honesty. Into each note Robert and Otis pour emotion; into each phrase their hearts.

This classic album was recorded in 1960 and it Otis' first album on his own. For lovers of the blues, OTIS SPANN IS THE BLUES is essential.Ê

Filled with tracks recorded during the Otis Spann Is The Blues session, Walkin' The Blues can be considered Volume Two, since it isthe remaning material from that same session. Shelved for a period of time, Walkin' The Blues has been a most elusive album. This lost classic has now reemerged.

It was Muddy Watters who treated Spann as his protege and referred to him as his half brother. And under Waters guidance, Otis Spann emerged as a top-notched musicians and took command of his own sessions. Collaberating with such greats as Robert Lockwood Jr. and James oden (St.Louis Jimmy), the recording session for Walkin' The Blues took place at Fine studios in New York august 23,1960. With Spann on Piano and vocals, Lockwood on guitar and vocals, and Oden on vocals, they all give "Monkey Face Blues,""Come Day,Go Day,." "Bad Condition" and "It Must Have Been The Devil" a life of their Own. The sombre tale "Half Aint Been Told," has been used for Sad Day Texas after the assassination of John F. Kennedy and Spann's Tribute To Marin Luther KIng. Walkin' The Blues is a treasure once lost and now rediscovered.
